Details: The Sunbank 40G solar water heater is an affordable way for you to take the first step toward personal energy independence. The 40 gallon system is meant for 1-3 people - for larger households take a look at our 80 gallon system. Heating water constitutes 15-30% of the average home’s energy consumption. For a family of four this can easily be $600 per year. The Sunbank was designed to save you money by replacing electricity or gas with free energy from the Sun. Solar Thermal systems like the Sunbank convert solar energy into heat using evacuated tube solar collectors which absorb between 92%-96% of the solar radiation that strikes them. Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels generally absorb only 15%. The solar collectors heat water in a super insulated tank where it is stored until you are ready to use it. The Sunbank is a pressurized system, which means that just like your existing electric or gas water heater, it relies on municipal or well pressure to move water into and out of the tank. When you turn on your hot water faucet, cold water is pushed into the hot water tank, which in turn pushes the hot water to your faucet. As opposed to other solar water heating technologies, the Sunbank does not require glycol or pumps, and has no moving parts. All this adds up to an incredibly efficient solar water heater that is virtually maintenance free. Includes 240V backup heating element.
